M3: Evaluate feedback from the audience, identifying strengths and weaknesses.
Feedback received and my response:
A lot of the feedback I received was positive however there were some points which I was told I needed to improve on. For example one of these points was the sound quality In regards to the storyline my focus group all agreed on the fact it needed some more sound effects, for example, they wanted to hear a "swoosh" sound when the boy passed the main character to symbolise the fact she wasn't real, they also all agreed on having some underlined music being played when Adam the main character is shouting at the psychiatrist to add tension and add more to the piece. Based on the feedback I received the areas in which I feel the piece needs to improve are the sound effects and some of the editing side of it, for example, the group all decided it needs some more sound effects to add tension to the piece as well as tense music. This will be something I add to the edit and something I think about in future projects. Based on the feedback I received the areas in which I feel I personally need to improve upon is the editing side of it, the focus group also added there needed to be some more ambitious shots either in the studio or out on location. I feel like I could have changed it when editing it to make it look more ambitious and give it a different feel to it. These changes Ive mentioned above about the sound effect and the shots being more ambitious, needs to be changed to meet the conventions of a TV drama, so they can have full effect on the audience. The effect I'm trying to gain from the audience is the one of when they watch a TV drama, I want my audience to be shocked, intrigued and invested into the story, so to do this these changes need to be Mae accordingly so I can achieve this correctly. By doing this it will aid my production and also any future productions. By listening to the feedback I gained it allows me to improve my product to a professional standard and be able to follow these conventions in the show, and when I follow these conventions it will make the show better to watch and make it look more professional.
My key strengths in making this production and where they lied:
I think one of my keys strengths for this production was the organisation side of it. For example, I felt like I was good at organising the cast to meet me on location and the studio on certain days at certain times, which weren't times that were unrealistic but times that were suited for everyone and was easy to manage. I also feel another key strength was building the idea, in regards to I didn't find it hard to come up with the idea. This also relates to the writing of the script in which I get confident writing in a script format and creating the dialogue between characters. Another key strength I think I adopted when producing this production was time management when on location I made sure we stuck to timings so the actors didn't have to say overtime to shoot more content that is the same for the studio shoot.
My weaknesses in making this production and where they lied:
One key weakness was the editing side of it, for example, I found it very difficult to edit the live production together; taking other live shots we did and matching to the original live shot I had. This is also the same for the colouring I had to do within the studio I found it difficult to colour some shots to either brighten it or make it look more effective. Another weakness was my organisation for the live camera shots, I personally felt I wasn't doing a good enough job and was not giving the camera operators enough information on what I wanted, this is something I need to work on so next time I am more efficient and can tell my camera operators what I want in regards to the shot/angle/height.
How I felt I performed during this project:
I think I performed to a good standard, I understood what needed to be done throughout production as well as letting everyone else understand what they need to be done. I felt when shooting on location me and my cameraman both performed at a high standard making sure the actors didn't feel like it was a real amateur production, so we acted as professional as we could throughout the shoot.
Four things I could develop my own personal skills:
1. I would develop me learning on editings, such as colouring and editing shots together to make it flow well.
2. I would need to develop my learning audio, for example, some audio wasn't good enough meaning we had to reshoot.
3. I feel I also need to develop my directing skills such as making it more assertive that I want something done or maybe just having quiet on the set.
4. I need to develop my personal skill set on working with larger productions teams, for example when working in the stupid with multiple cameras I need to make sure everyone knows what they're doing and what I want in regards to shots or what I want from the actors.
Using points 2 and 3 above I will talk about now how I can develop these skills to be better in the future:
I need to improve on editing - I stated this because I found it difficult to edit the live production together especially colour grading some of the shots to match them to the other shots within the piece, what I will do about this is go back to the edit and tweak them so it looks better, I will also practice my editing skills by watching youtube tutorials on it. the other weakness I identified was my directional skills to the team, I said this because I felt when doing the live sequence I wasn't being assertive of what I wanted and when I wanted quiet on set for example. The way I'd like to develop this is by doing more production like this so I can work on these keys points.
