What is the station’s focus?:
The main stations focus is to play new and upcoming songs by new and upcoming artist as well as playing well know songs by famous artist. The station also does live studio recordings of artist as well as interviewing them. Most of their content is music instead of speech and entertainment. |
Who are the target audience?:
The target audience for BBC 1xtra in 15-24 year olds both male and female, this is because there music played is more directed to that age group. How is the station structured and organised?:
Radio 1xtra is structured by different radio presenters which all present at certain times of the day with different sub genre of their show. For example one of the presenters show can go on for up to 2 hours, the genre would include updated music is a specific music genre. After this presenter/genre has presented they will then move onto the next presenter in line. The morning show however can go on for 4 hours, and they normally discuss su bisects that are relevant to their demographic as well as delivering news to the audience and playing updated music. They also have quizzes/interviews/celebrity appearances. The morning show also tailor their music to the time of day for example the morning show play upbeat more calmer music for there audience whilst the late show plays up to date much more harder music perhaps a genre like grime. |
What does the station do to appeal to this audience?:
The station do live music sessions which help appeal to the target audience, as this gives them a chance to hear them be interviewed as well as being able to hear them play live on the radio and do freestyles. The station also plays hit songs to appeal to their audience, such as rap music, grime and current music that is popular to their target audience. The station also do interviews with famous artists so the listeners can get a chance to hear what their favourite artists have to say. On. BBC 1 xtra they also use presents that are similar to their target audiences age this way the audience can easily connect with the presenter. This is the same for the website of BBC 1 xtra, it appeals to the target audience as you can watch interviews with celebrities , watch them perform live and listen to your favourite presenter |

The purpose of BBC 1 extra, is to provide a variety of music to the target audience as well as talking about topical subjects that may relate to the target audience. Another purpose of this radio show is to promote certain artists and to get them recognised, this is done by Charlie Sloth (The presenter) getting on new and unheard of artist to do 'Fire in the booth' which basically allows that artist to show what they can do to an audience. Technically the BBC can't advertise certain artists, but by getting home to come on their show it allows them to become more well known to their target audience.
Income:
BBC license fee pays for it, all the shows don't contain adverts so its done through the license payer.
Scheduling:
The BBC 1xtra station is an all day station, with a variety of presenters presenting throughout the day.

You can hear this by the way the presents talk to each-other or guests, for example they won't be very posh speaking it will be much more casual, they will also joke a lot with their other presenters or guests.
