Structure:
The structure for The Violators trailer starts of with the production company that helped create this film, this is so they can inform their audience on who created the product. The first piece of audio that is heard in the trailer is the sound of wind and seagulls calling this connotes to the audience that this film could be set by the seaside, we then hear slow pain music which suggest its going to be a film of moving on as well as sadness. Some of the clips that are shown have shots of people smoking weed and rough parts of the town which connotes to the audience that this film will look at peoples lives where it smush harder growing up. The trailer also shows awards that the film has been nominated for to let the audience know that this film is a good film. Throughout the trailer we have a slow build up of tension but never showing the climax of the story however only leaving us on a cliffhanger. The end of the trailer leaves us with information about the film i.e when it will be shown, who wrote it, directed it etc.

Audience:
The film trailer looks at hardship of a teenage girls life, as well as the psychological effects it has on her and growing up in a poor part of Liverpool. As this film discusses topical subjects such as financial struggle and drugs, I think the audience for this piece of media would have be a older target audience as they would either have to have an understanding of this or have actually gone through something like this to really comprehend the story that is being told, the story in depth would only relate to people who have really gone through this hardship as they would be able to understand the characters thoughts and feelings towards certain topics within the film. This film appeals to both genders but specifically females, as the whole story is about a teenage girls life growing up in a rough Liverpool town. I think working class people can really relate to this film and the narrative that is being told as they might have gone through something similar to this hardship, however it will also relate to upper class people as they can sympathise with the character and really feel their emotions.
Purpose:
I think the main purpose of this film it to inform and educate the audience on the hardship of being poor and facing the challenges of not having enough money. Within this film they use love and anger to pull the narrative together and evokes the feelings of the audience members. The trailer is structured well, it flows well
A large purpose of the trailer is to educate audiences on the struggles people are facing and how many people are being mistreated within the system. With the humour to lighten the darker reality they are portraying, another purpose is to entertain the audience. The trailer is structured well in terms of editing and how the story flows, entertaining the audience by capturing their attention and therefore, selling the film. The trailer informs the audience that the awards the film has won and which companies collaborated to be able to make the film.

For the structure of the music video, it has a start middle and end to it. Giving a narrative to the music video. It starts at the begging with Dizzee Rascal and his friends seeming like they're causing 'Mischief' or 'trouble' this tory slowly progress to the realisation that Dizzee Rascal and his friend are actually doing good deeds for the town instead of what the town think they're doing (causing 'Trouble'), and with this the story concludes where the townspeople, police and everyone come together. The focus of this music video where Dizzee Racal and his friends, as the plot is focused on them.
Begging: Dizzee Rascal meets his friends and starts to walk around the town, making people feel intimidated. Making people feel uncomfortable and as like they where gonna smash the town.

Audience:
The audience for this music video would primarily be for males aged 14+, the is because males from 14+ would stereotypically like this sort of music rather than females. However, the actual music video relates to a lot of people especially some ethnic backgrounds, due to what had happened previously before the music video was shot. There had been riots 2 years before this music video was created, and with this came a moral/meaning to this music video which therefore relates to a much wider target audience, that being both females and males, with a wider age. Although to some people Dizzee Rascals music is a niche, the ideas and meaning put into his lyrics and videos can appeal to all audiences.

Structure:
The Trailer starts off with the film company's logo; that being IFC Films. They do this to inform the audience who created the film and the companies name. The first shot we have is an establishing shot of council flats, this is to inform the audience about the location which the film will be set on, it also informs the audience where our main characters might live, and from there the audience can start to build an idea of what sort characters they are, from where they live. The next shot we have is a shot of the back of girl looking out from the balcony of her flat, then shots moving onto close up, to medium wide shots of her applying makeup, behind the shoulder of her whilst she looks at other charters. All these shots that are displayed first in this advert are all very personal shots, especially the close-up shots, by having this in the trailer it builds a connection with the audience to the character. This may be to make the audience either relate to the character or just have an understanding of how it is to be her. The next shot we have is an award shot, this is to inform the audience that the film has won competitions and that it is at a high standard. Throughout the trailer, the music used creates atmosphere and tension towards the audience, as the music slowly increase in volume and builds up to what we think is a climax, but the trailer actually leaves on a cliffhanger. This will, therefore, make the audience want to go watch it so they can find out how the story ended.

M1: Analyse the different approaches used in the identified promos
Below Im going to be analysing the mise-en-scene used in the social realism promos, as well as the looking more in depth to the sound and lighting that has been used.
The Violators:
|
How is mess-en-scene used?
Actors: The actors used within 'The Violators' are supposed to be a representative of the target audience, they are also supposed to be the stereotypical teenager. By having them portrayed at the typical teenager it makes the story more realistic. Especially what they wear it makes the audience have a deeper understanding of the story and the characters. Location: The film is set in the north of England, in some rough industrial looking areas, this was to connote to the audience what sort of film this is. And with the location playing a key theme in the film, it creates a powerful feeling to the film as the two main characters are fighting to makes thing better in their lives. Costumes: The costumes worn in the film are a reflection of the stereotypes the actors are portraying that being 'Teenagers'. The costumes are also worn to reflect the location that is a rough town in the north, this will also make the characters look intimidating and make the story more realistic. Clothing used are primarily tracksuits, puffer coats, and trainers, this helps connote the theme of the film. How is lighting used within the piece? At the start of the trailer the lighting used are very dark colours, greys, and blacks. This is to represent the negative themes that occur in this movie trailer. At the start of the video the coolers are dark and grey, however, as the trailer goes on the start to get a bit lighter we see more pinks and yellows which give the audience connotations of states of happiness, then the colours start to go back to grey and back as soon as something bad happens. How is sound used? At the start of the trailer we are welcomed with the sound effects of seagulls chirping and the sound of the wind, then a light piano piece is added to give the feeling of calmness. The piano piece that is added at the start is added to represent calmness and then slowly the piano piece gets louder and more noticeable especially when the piano is played on a lower note, this is to represent fear or anger in the trailer. |
Dizzee Rascal - Love This Town:
|
How is mess-en-scene used?
Actors: The actors used in the music video, are all males and around the age of 20, this helps with the stereotype that some men around this age are violent. This also follows the theme of the music video that being violence and anger, and the audience would also think because of what the actors are wearing, doing and the location there in means that they are trying to cause mischief. Location: The location of the music is based in London, and from that, the audience will instantly connect London to dangerous or rough. Especially the shots used in this video, where we see shots such as a dirty bus stop or dirty shop fronts. They use this dirty look as part of the music video, bemused towards the end they clean up the city. Costumes: The costumes the actors are wearing in the music video are stereotypically worn by gangs in London, and with the actors wearing these sorts of clothes the audience will instantly make that connection, that these characters are actually bad and up to no good. The costumes are also used to make the actors look intimidating and angry. The types of clothes uses are hoodies, tracksuits, trainers, and masks, all of these items of clothing help connote to the audience the theme of this music video. How is lighting used within the piece? At the start of the music video, the lighting is very neutral, with some grey and black undertones. This is to represent the town being dirty and not "clean" this also follows the theme of the music video. The lighting stays the same throughout the piece until the end, when a police officer through a smoke bomb, the colour of the smoke bomb id red which indicates to the audience that there may be possible, danger or violence. But when the smoke rises into the sky we see it go from a red to a pink and then the smoke forms into a heart. This is to represent the towns love to the community. How is sound used? In the music video there aren't actually that many sound effects apart from the sound of police sirens going off in the background, this is to help connote the idea of a riot beginning. There is also no need for that many noticeable sound effects as the music will be the main feature throughout. |
Fish Tank:
|
