P2: Explain the changing media marketplace and how this has provided the opportunity for the proposed new product.
Sony presentation - Changing marketplace.
This here is a presentation explaining how the change of the media marketplace has affected Sony as a company. For example Sony had to use synergy with other companies to stay relevant, an example of this would be Sony moving to gaming. I think Sony has allowed for an opportunity for my new product as we could use synergy to build this app bigger and better with Sonys resources such as computing and electronics. In the response to Sonys continuing change throughout the years my new proposed idea would work as its an app, which means its following the change and convergence of media products, as well as it providing a service to digitalis natives (My young target audience). It is apparent that over the years only has beens successful with their convergence of products, so when it comes to pitching my idea I will keep these ideas to help me build a strong product to pitch.
I will now look into another company which I feel will help the development of my idea in regards to what the proposal wants us to create.
When the company started and why it had started:
MTV was founded on the 1st of August, 1981 by Robert Pittman, it is an American cable and satellite television channel owned by Viacom Media Networks and headquartered in New York City. It was primarily used to show music videos however later on the company decided to show more of a wider range of television shows
Product evolution
Over time MTV progresses from only broadcasting music videos to airing dramas and reality shows, and hosting their own music award show. For exmaple TV shows that followed where shows like, Teen mum, Jersey shore and Catfish all making the channel grow in popularity.

How their products adapted to the Digital era:
Because youtube was created in 2005, it led to a lot of music videos being played on Youtube, this left MTV with their audiences watching music videos their instead. So what MTV decided to do was create TV shows that would interest their audience again; from this, shows like jersey shores and Catfish where created.
To interest, a wider range of their audience MTV released their own website, which shares celeb gossip, upcoming programs, music, films and gaming topics.

The impact it has had on the audience:
- MTV has used their platform to promote certain topics, political views and environmental topics. They also encouraged their audiecne to vote.
- MTV has become a platform for young people to express certain views and feelings they have.
- MTV was the main platform for young people to watch and listen. to ne music videos, this was before YouTube.
- The channel has also become a popular places to watch new shows like teen mom
I personally think the companies they have bought out or collaborated with have allowed for a better viewing for the audience, the collaboration has also bought new shows to the platform allowing for a growth in the audience viewing. Its also bought a wider genre of shows as well, this also makes the platform have a larger viewing because of this mixed genre.
How this development had impacted the company in regards to revenue and staffing etc:
- MTV is now part of a massive conglomerate (Viacom Media Networks) and MTV's net worth is now $6.3 Billion
- Viacom Media Networks offer jobs in all parts of the channel, and have loads of vaccines and this Is made possible due to the digital era where they can post their vaccines online and anyone can apply online.
- The MTV employees have some benefits with working with MTV such as health insurance etc.
- MTV also offers work experience to students allowing them to grow in staffing. Because the programme if young adults and young teens, the company offer masterclasses and online training to any work experience
MTV as a company have just got bigger and bigger each year in regards to employees working for them and the revenue they gain. This is because MTV and Viacom work together to search for a gap In the market for their products so they can distribute is properly and gain a large viewing figure.

My new proposed product will be an app which allows you the users to buy new clothes similar to your favourite artist at a click of a button. The suer will also be able to looked at past and present interviews, read articles on the artist, explore their new work, find similar music and connect with their Spotify. The purpose of this app is to "Sell clothes in a unique way by working with UK music artists and online fashion companies". The clients state we should work with UK music artists to make sure that the app will be successful. As the convergence and change in products is increasing all the time in this market place, I will need to include the use these artist to ensure I'm keeping my target audience engaged. This can be done through making the music artist/celebs talk about the application in interviews, shows etc, or make them the app ambassador, by doing we will be using influencers to gain a wider audience and to make them use the app.
