Rotoscoping - Rotoscoping was another way which made star wars so captivating, rotoscopers had to rotoscope the light on the lightsabers to give it that effect of a lazor, for when it came to those iconic lightsaber battles. They rotoscoped it to give it a deadly look that no one had ever seen before, and this made the film really feel like it was set in the future and was actually real.
3D Animation - Was used by Pixar to create a soft and loving characters in the film, they did this mainly to make the characters really stand out and give it realistic animation look that no body had seen before, as i said before this really makes the audience to love the character.
Chroma key - Was used to build a bigger set and make it seem like they where actually racing through New York, this make the audience feel like this actually happened, it also develops the story further an makes the film packed full of adventure and action through the Chroma Key set.
Matte Painting - Matte painting was used to create a set that was never actually there to make the audience believe that the film was actually shot in the desert this helps to create realism within the film and add development on the story. Matte painting was used in this to put R2-D2 and C3-PO in the desert to give off the feeling that they where lost in this landscape.
Makeup - Make up was used in this scene of X men to show of Mystique's real identity, this helps the audience see what she really looks like and in some cases feel for her. The make up used develops the story further as it shows what she really looks like and what kind of mutant she is.
Special effects techniques
Mechanical props - Mechanical props was used in E.T. To create this fake character, they used a mechanical prop to create realism for the audience. This also helps to make the audience feel like this is a real Alien as its actions are so human like. This also helps to add to the story of E.T. hiding in the house.
Scale model - A scale model of the death star Was used in Star Wars as at the time they dint have the right technology to create this massive detailed CGI'd death star, so what they did the created a large scale model of the death star that was very detailed so when they filmed it all they had to do was zoom in close on certain areas and this would make the audience feel though it was actually real. This would also help to add to story and develop it further as we can actually see what the death star looks like.
Stunt props - Stunt props where used in James Bond to make the audience feel that they actually knocking over extremely old artefacts in the museum, this puts the audience on edge as well as adding a bit of comedy to the story as how ridiculous it is that the are knocking over really expensive artefacts.
